Every self-respecting Southerner loves their macaroni and cheese. So, as a southern transplant, I must admit then when I see down home offerings on a local menu I revert to childlike, giddy enthusiasm. I can fondly recall the smell of bubbling warm cheese and pasta wafting throughout the house on many a school night. Zing, zing, zing went my heartstrings!
That's exactly what happened when a friend and I stopped in at the Firehouse Kitchen. Who doesn't adore piping hot appropriately gooey macaroni and cheese and fresh baked popovers? Admittedly, my palette has matured, so Firehouse KItchen's version with their luscious 3 cheese white truffel sauce was a delight to savor!
When you step in her restaurant, Sheryl Strong wants you to feel a sense of comfort. She took great care in every detail to evoke a sense of warmth and understated style. Although small, at a 50 person seating capacity this proves to be an intimate, well desighned space.
The atmosphere is similar to an upper scale cafe or bistro with a cozy, unpretentious vibe. It is smartly adorned with simple black top tables and comfortable high-back leather chairs. Complimenting the walls are warm colors of butterscotch and burnt sienna. A top notch choice for the space!
Suspended from the exposed ceiling hang hand blown, color spattered glass fixtures that provide subdued elegant lighting. The tiled floor is unique in its own right with its copper colored acid-like stain which lends a rustic and earthy component and ties the whole space together quite nicely.
I found the menu simple, yet varied. The lunch entrees consist of a well balanced variety of crisp refreshing salads with house made dressings, (we can't thank you enough!) freshly prepared daily soups, generous Certified Angus Beef burgers and an array of creative sandwiches.
As my lunch companion and I chattered away, she enjoyed nibbling on the lightly Breaded Portobello Sandwich as I happily savored my luscious macaroni and cheese. I helped myself to a bite of the portobello sandwich and I must say that I thought it was rather inventive. The well balanced ginger soy aioli was refreshingly unique.
I also opted for a side salad, which consisted of juicy grape tomatoes, fresh chopped zucchini, various other seasonal vegtables and a surprising spattering of cornbread croutons. I thought they added a particularly interesting and flavorful touch.
The also offer a few steaming hot Pasta Dishes including a Fresh Basil Pesto Pasta with sundried tomatoes and mushrooms, a two meat lasagna and fabulous Firehouse Kitchen version of meatloaf with seasoned beef and pork.
Desserts selections include but are not limited to delectable Carrot Cake, an ohhh! so moist Bread Pudding, scrumptious velvety Creme Brulee, and of course, warm butter crusted Apple Pie. If you are feeling a bit naughty, try the warm homemade Brownie al a Mode with Fudge Sauce. I lucked out and got a corner piece brownie. I'm *all* about getting that crispy edge with a bit of the sturdy part of the vanilla bean ice cream with hot fudge trails of goodness all swirled about. Yum!
The wait staff proved to be cordial and attentive from the beginning to the end of service. The owner herself popped over to make sure my company and I were pleased with our experience. However, I am not entirely convinced tha it wasn't just to subdue the ruckus, from all the brownie induced moans coming form our table.
In total, including dessert and beverages we spent only $30.00 plus a well deserved 20% gratuity. Granted, I most assuredly could have escaped a bit richer by the end, but all in all I have to say it wasn't priced out of line for a working lunch.
I think its fair to say that Firehouse Kitchen puts a welcome and innovative spin to the standard "Mon used to make em' favorites." With a simple yet varied lunch and dinner menu, well thought out wine selections, fair pricing, excellent service and a charming atmoshpere, this new addition to a our community surely promises to be a favorite among the locals and tourist alike.
Conviently located in the heart of downtown Prescott, AZ, the Firehouse KItchen restaurant is nestled in the quaint & newly remodeled Old Firehouse Plaza, at 218 W Goodwin St, mere footsteps from Whiskey Row.

“Best Pot Roast in the world! No Joke- Go to Prescott just for this!”

While staying in Phoenix we drove to Prescott(2 Hours) to check out the town- What we found was complete serendipity! It was a great little place with outstanding food, service and ambiance. The Firehouse Kitchen! We walked in and were immediately greeted by the owner who led us to our seat with nice conversation. Once we were seated we saw a great menu which consisted of, but was not limited to, Ribs, brisket, chicken marsala, pasta and of course The BEST Pot Roast in the world! It was seriously mouth watering, tender, and full of savory flavor. (Hardly any fat, if there was any??) It came with the most wonderful gravy. It was served with a choice of potato and the most delicious mix of veggies that had to have been fire roasted (carrots, green beans, squash, mushrooms) They were to die for! We drank a great white riesling wine and they had a selection of draft beers. It was a great place for families, while the ambiance was still somewhat romantic enough for adults. They had a great menu for my 3 kids- My 2 year old son had a mini- version of a gormet Macaroni and cheese that was also delicious! While my Two daughters 9 and 14 couldn't resist the Pot Roast as well. My husband ate the chicken Marsala which was also outstanding! We snaked on a 5 star creme brulee and a brownie sundae! The menu was a little pricey, but worth it. The portions were big and the meal tasted home cooked with a gourmet twist! 5 star class all the way! It was an outstanding experience and we will be heading back to Prescott, (even if it is just for The Firehouse Kitchen,) in the near future for another memorable expierence! Of all the restaurants we ate at during our week long trip in AZ (in scottsdale, phoenix, flaggstaff, prescott) and there were a ton, The Firehouse Kitchen is the place to go!

On a January evening walking tour of Prescott, I stumbled on this little American bistro by accident. In a town where most eateries had 4 or 5 guests, this place was packed at 6pm with happy diners. Being a walk-in wasn't a problem, and Cheryl the owner was more than happy to slip me into a deuce with no appreciable wait.

My dinner started with a tasty baguette slices topped with a rich, nutty-tasting cheese and served with a fresh salsa for dipping and such.

Of the many tasty entrées, I chose the breaded chicken Marsala with a hearty red wine, and finished with the Crème Brulée. Large portions, impeccable service and a real feeling of warm hospitality at this place.

I'll be back on my next visit through Prescott.

Hands down one of the best places I have eaten in Prescott. The food was excellent, the service was warm and friendly, and the atmosphere was top notch. We were told all the food is made from scratch and it showed. It's nice to see quality make it's way back into the Prescott area! Thanks for a great meal, we will be back often.

This is comfort food as it should be: excellent flavor, beautifully presented, generous portions. Oh, and did I mention the ambience? This place has a warm and inviting atmosphere that says "come in and relax while you enjoy some of the best food in Prescott." Lunch and dinner menus are completely different, and both are excellent. Once you've tried it you'll want to go back regularly.
